Wiper dismisses DCP claims of meeting to back Sifuna
Cleophas Malala has now declared that Rigathi Gachagua and the DCP have picked Edwin Sifuna as the United Opposition presidential candidate to face William Ruto in 2027.
It is fantasy for him as he wants to be elected as Kakamega governor riding on the wings of Sifuna as a presidential candidate. The consequences of these hurried moves from both the Sifuna and DCP team could be a complete disaster for the opposition against Ruto in the 2027 elections.
Already in the media, Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has dismissed claims by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala that the party will meet the Wiper leader on Monday to persuade him to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s 2027 presidential bid.
Wiper, through its party spokesperson, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, rejected Malala’s remarks shortly after the DCP deputy leader announced the planned meeting.
Malala said DCP had settled on Sifuna as its preferred candidate to represent the Opposition in the race against President William Ruto and was reaching out to other leaders to build consensus around his candidacy.
“You have seen DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua meet Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna the other day. They are united,” Malala said.
“We have said we also want to talk to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. We want him to support Sifuna.”
He added: “On Monday, we are going to meet Kalonzo. In DCP, we have agreed Sifuna is up to the task.”
However, Njiru dismissed the assertion, accusing Malala of advancing a divisive narrative that could undermine efforts to unite the Opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“I urge the media to treat this statement with the contempt it deserves. The remarks attributed to Senator Malala can only be characterised as the work of a playwright rather than a serious political actor. Malala appears intent on driving a divisive knife through the heart of the opposition,” Njiru said.
The exchange highlights the differences emerging among opposition leaders over who should carry their presidential ticket as they seek to mount a joint challenge against President Ruto.
The claims come days after Gachagua returned from an almost two-month tour of the United States and met leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, led by Sifuna.
During the meeting, Gachagua disclosed that they had explored possible ways of working together ahead of the 2027 elections, fuelling discussions about potential political alliances within the Opposition.
However, Kalonzo has also been positioning himself for the joint opposition ticket, arguing that his political experience makes him suited to lead the coalition into the next election.
Some opposition figures linked to the presidential ticket contest include Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Fred Matiang’i of the Jubilee Party, and Justin Muturi of the Democratic Party (DP), among others.
Sifuna, who is associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, has also emerged as a potential contender following his engagement with Gachagua.
The competing ambitions have intensified pressure on opposition leaders to agree on a presidential candidate and develop a common strategy before the 2027 polls.
The Opposition has yet to formally settle on a joint presidential candidate, with leaders seeking a consensus that balances political experience, regional support and the need to consolidate votes against the ruling coalition.
Cleophas Malala: Gachagua and I have agreed that Sifuna will be our 2027 presidential candidate

Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has claimed that he and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua have agreed to back Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as their presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
Malala said the discussions were part of ongoing political consultations aimed at building a political alliance ahead of the next polls.
He revealed that he and Gachagua had already reached an understanding and planned to meet Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday, October 26, 2026.
“On Monday tunaenda kukaa na Kalonzo. Sisi na Riggy G tushaelewana. Mtoto wetu ako sawa tusiongee maneno mingi,” Malala said.

The former senator also argued that he deserved a political position after helping mobilise support for the political camp.
“Sasa jameni kazi yote nimefanya kuletea mtoto wetu kura milioni nane. Si pia mimi nadeserve kiti kidogo hapa jameni? Ama mimi nitakuwa nafanyia tu watu kazi?” he posed.
Kakamega gubernatorial bid
Malala further declared his intention to contest the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, saying he hoped to become governor regardless of the political ambitions of other leaders.
“Cleophas Malala atakuwa gavana wa county ya Kakamega kwa mapenzi ya Mungu,” he said.
He also urged young people to prioritise voting rather than limiting their political participation to making noise at funerals.
“Tafadhali vijana, mshike kura. Msipige kelele kwa matanga na mshike kura,” Malala said.
The remarks come amid political consultations ahead of the 2027 General Election, as opposition figures explore possible alliances and presidential candidacies.
The first big blunder in this whole spectacle is that Rigathi Gacahagua comes back home after wasting two months in the USA doing nothing for the opposition and the Malalas put Edwin Sifuna on his lap so he can touch Sifuna’s ears and nose and make him feel big and important.
In a serious opposition movement, Gachagua after coming back to the country would have called a meeting of all opposition leaders to figure out where to go next as the country is now just 9 months away from the next general election. They would have held their discussions for a couple of days and tell Kenyans their plans for the country.
Instead they have this spoof move by Malala and Sifuna and now the opposition has an ongoing war between Kalonzo Musyoka team and Sifuna. Whose interest does that serve?
At the end of the day will Kalonzo Musyoka agree to be the DP for Edwin Sifuna in the opposition ticket? Will Sifuna be Kalonzo’s DP?
What a brilliant way to start opposition unity in Kenya as Gachagua comes back to the country. Never mind the other sad faces like Uhuru’s Fred Matiang’i and the young Ndindi Nyoro.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro attended a Sunday Mass together in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, as opposition leaders continue efforts to build a united front against President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
And here are the real battles in Kalonzo Musyoka’s backyard which he cannot ignore and it is getting hilarious.
“Namshukuru Kalonzo kwa kusema kwamba Mungu ananitumia,” Ruto said.
“Mungu ananitumia kujenga barabara, Mungu ananitumia kuleta maji, Mungu ananitumia kuboresha huduma za matibabu. Na yeye Mungu anamtumia Kalonzo kunisaidia kutangaza,” he added.

As we have leant from the media, the President’s remarks followed Kalonzo’s comments on road construction in Ukambani, where the opposition leader suggested that Ruto’s renewed commitment to infrastructure development was divinely inspired.
The Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka stated that God is using President William Ruto to fast-track development projects in Kenya, such as tarmacking the road to Tseikuru in Ukambani, teasing that the work is part of a divine plan ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
“Ruto, because he fears us, is working hard to complete the road to Tseikuru, and I’m telling him to work even harder. By now, that road should have reached Maua. God is using Ruto in a very special way. That hard work isn’t really his; it is God’s,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo’s statement provided Ruto with an opportunity to defend his administration’s development record while presenting the Wiper leader’s remarks as recognition that government projects were making progress in the region.
Ruto says Kalonzo acknowledges development projects
Ruto argued that his administration was delivering projects in Ukambani, citing road construction, water provision and healthcare as key areas of focus.
He said Kalonzo was helping communicate the government’s work by acknowledging projects where implementation was visible, contrasting the Wiper leader’s remarks with what he described as persistent criticism from other political opponents.
The President maintained that development should be recognised wherever it occurs and should not be dismissed simply because of political differences.
He suggested that Kalonzo was willing to acknowledge completed work, even as other leaders continued to question the government’s record.
“Ako na ukweli, mahali kazi imefanyika anasema jameni imefanyika,” Ruto said, praising what he portrayed as the opposition leader’s willingness to recognise development when it had been delivered.
The President’s response framed Kalonzo’s remarks as an example of how political leaders could acknowledge government projects without necessarily abandoning their political positions.
And here is poor Kalonzo Musyoka right now.
Kalonzo calls for opposition unity, accuses Ruto of interfering with Parliament

Wiper party leader Kalonzo musyoka addressing the congregation of ACK church in Ithare-ini , Gichugu constituency Kirinyaga county on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused President William Ruto’s administration of interfering with Parliament and politicising government development projects, as he called for opposition unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The former Vice President urged leaders to put the interests of Kenyans ahead of political differences and said the opposition had a responsibility to hold the government accountable.
He also distanced himself from the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying he did not participate in the process that led to his removal.
Kalonzo said he had since spoken with Gachagua and that the two had agreed to work together politically.
“I will go to Wamunyoro tomorrow,” he said, referring to Gachagua’s rural home.
