Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has called for a fresh, inclusive opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election, questioning the party’s continued involvement in the Azimio-Ukombozi arrangement.
Kioni said Jubilee should move beyond existing political formations and negotiate a new alliance that gives participating parties a meaningful role in decision-making.
“I really don’t understand what we are doing as Jubilee in this whole Azimio/Ukombozi arrangement,” he said.
His remarks come amid changes in opposition politics following the rebranding of Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition as The Ukombozi Alliance (TUA).
The debate has also intensified following former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s resignation as Azimio Council chairman on October 5, days after handing over Jubilee leadership to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Kioni’s comments raise fresh questions about Jubilee’s political direction and the structure of the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
Ukombozi leader Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained that Uhuru remains part of the coalition despite stepping down from its top council position, saying the former President could continue offering advice.
