The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has appointed former Kenyan Davis Cup player Eno Polo as its new Chief Executive Officer, the governing body for men’s professional tennis announced on Wednesday.
Polo, 58, succeeds Italian Massimo Calvelli “with immediate effect” following Calvelli’s resignation in June after more than five years in the role. A former professional who reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of 574 in 1990, Polo has been serving as a player representative on the ATP Board of Directors since 2021.
According to the ATP, Polo will oversee global operations and drive forward OneVision, a long-term plan designed to grow the sport, elevate fan engagement, and deliver lasting value for players, tournaments, and partners. He will work alongside ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi, who has led the organization since 2020.
“Eno is a dynamic and accomplished leader who understands both the commercial landscape and the intricacies of professional tennis,” Gaudenzi said in a statement.
Born and raised in Kenya, Polo represented the country in Davis Cup competition before building an extensive international business career. His leadership portfolio includes senior roles at Nike, Juventus Football Club, footwear brand Havaianas, and the Premier Padel circuit.
“Tennis is at a transformative moment as a global sport and business. The opportunity that lies ahead is immense,” Polo said upon his appointment.
His arrival comes at a sensitive time for the ATP, which is facing player grievances and legal challenges. Earlier this year, a group of around 20 players accused the body of “financial exploitation,” while also raising concerns about playing conditions such as extreme heat, inconsistent match balls, and an overcrowded tournament calendar.
Polo’s appointment is expected to play a key role in navigating these challenges while strengthening tennis’s global appeal.
