Kenya has sealed a deal to connect an additional 280,000 households in 32 counties to the national power grid through the newly signed Sh27 billion Last Mile Connectivity Project contract.
President William Ruto announced this significant stride on Monday, highlighting the impact on the already connected 9.6 million households, pushing Kenya’s national access rate to over 75%.
Expressing gratitude to development partners for their support, President Ruto stated, “I wish to express profound appreciation to our development partners for their consistent support throughout the course of this initiative.”
During the contract signing at State House, Nairobi, Ruto emphasized the transformative nature of this initiative, stating, “By standing with us in this initiative, our development partners have made an indelible contribution to Kenya’s economic transformation and inclusivity. Thank you very much.”
The President underlined the critical importance of electricity connectivity for economic growth, job creation, and enhancing various sectors, showcasing the tangible benefits realized since the inception of the Last Mile Connectivity Project in 2013.
Ruto asserted, “By connecting millions of households to the power grid, we have not only illuminated homes but also empowered communities, enhanced educational opportunities, improved healthcare services and turned the entire country into one flourishing economic hub.”
