Speaker of the Senate Kenneth Lusaka will vie for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat using Ford Kenya Party in 2022. On Saturday, Mr. Lusaka met Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula in Mombasa, where the Bungoma senator is having a two-day retreat with officials of his party.

According to sources from Ford Kenya Speaker of the Senate is part of an elaborate strategy by those pushing for a Musalia Mudavadi presidency, to have the region consolidated under the ANC leader.

Also, Ford Kenya politics is at play, with two factions of the outfit, one led by Senator Wetangula and the other by Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi going at each other ahead of 2022. Current Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wamangati an ally of Wafula Wamunyi had declared his intentions to defend his seat next year using the party’s ticket.

There are also reports Speaker Lusaka’s move is informed by his broken relationship with DP Ruto and the uncertainty of clinching UDA ticket. Mr. Lusaka is labeled a traitor by DP Ruto’s lieutenants in the senate, including Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Irungu Kangata (Muranga) who accuse him of not defending them against the Jubilee onslaught and spearheading their removal from senate leadership positions.
