Kalonzo Musyoka Embarks on Seven-Day US Tour to Rally Diaspora Support

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is set to embark on a week-long tour of the United States from February 3 to 10, in what his team describes as a strategic diplomatic and political mission aimed at strengthening international networks and engaging the Kenyan diaspora ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to sources within the Wiper Democratic Movement, Musyoka’s visit will center around Washington, D.C., where he is scheduled to meet senior officials from the U.S. State Department, members of Congress, and representatives of key policy think tanks. The trip is being coordinated by the Africa Policy Institute in collaboration with the Kenyan Diaspora Alliance-USA, which extended the formal invitation to the former Vice President.

The invitation, insiders say, was motivated by Musyoka’s long-standing reputation as a seasoned diplomat and peace negotiator.

Organizers of the visit noted that his experience as Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Minister and his role in regional peace efforts, including mediation in South Sudan and Somalia, make him a valuable voice in discussions on governance, democracy, and stability in East Africa.

During his stay, Musyoka is expected to deliver a keynote address at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on “Africa’s Democratic Transitions and the Role of the Diaspora.”

He will also hold town hall meetings with Kenyan professionals and students in Washington, Maryland, and Virginia, focusing on diaspora investment, dual citizenship rights, and political participation.

This marks Musyoka’s first major international engagement of 2026 and comes at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Analysts view the trip as part of a broader effort by the Wiper leader to position himself as a credible national and international statesman capable of leading a coalition or contesting for the presidency.

Musyoka’s Washington tour could serve multiple purposes: reaffirming his international credentials, attracting diaspora funding for his political machinery, and signaling to domestic allies and rivals alike that he remains a serious contender in the 2027 race.

Upon his return to Nairobi, Musyoka is expected to brief the media and his party leadership on the outcomes of the visit, including potential partnerships and policy insights gained from his engagements in the U.S.
