Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka will not run for president in 2022 and is now eyeing the Prime Minister’s position in the next government if the Building Bridges Initiative goes through. According to insiders from the former VP’s camp, Kalonzo is willing to drop his presidential ambitions to embrace teamwork, just like he has done from 2013.
”He is going for the PM post and it does not matter which camp offers him the spot. He is not running for the presidency,” the source said.
Currently, Mr. Musyoka is part of the One Kenya Alliance, an outfit bringing together ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi (KANU) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya).
The four leaders have been meeting to have a new alliance formalized and last week, the outfit’s technical team briefed the party leaders on their progress.
”One Kenya Alliance principals we met to receive an update report from our technical committee on the progress made in the formalization of the Alliance. We are satisfied with the progress,” the Wiper leader tweeted on May 18th.
Meanwhile, the 12-member technical committee picked by the principals to spearhead the coalition talks advised against consensus or boardroom negotiations in picking its presidential flag-bearer.
Instead, the committee wants each of the four constituent parties allocated a certain number of delegates and collectively they will constitute the National Delegates Conference.
“At the moment, we have national delegates conference as one of the options on the table. The principals will have the final say,” Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa said last week.
