In a historic feat, Kenya’s Junior Starlets have punched their ticket to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after triumphing over Burundi with a resounding 2-0 victory, claiming a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate success across the two qualifier legs.
Marion Serenge ignited the scoring frenzy with a precise strike in the 17th minute, followed by Valerie Nekesa sealing the deal at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, propelling the team to their inaugural World Cup qualification.
The triumph propels the Junior Starlets to the global stage as they prepare to showcase their talent at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, set to grace the Dominican Republic in October and November.
Amidst a wave of accolades, Tourism and Wildlife CS Alfred Mutua lauded the team’s historic achievement, exclaiming, “Your hard work and determination have paid off, and now the world will see your talent on the grand stage. We can’t wait to cheer you on in the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.”
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko joined in celebrating the momentous victory, stating, “Congratulations, Junior Starlets, for qualifying for the Under 17 FIFA World Cup. We are proud of you!”
