Junet Mohamed Tells Sakaja to Join ODM or Forget Re-election in 2027

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has warned to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to join the Orange Democratic Movement or abandon hopes of re-election in 2027.

Speaking on Sunday during a Mega Women, Boda Boda, and Hustlers Empowerment Fundraiser in Kileleshwa Ward, Junet declared that ODM remains the dominant political force in the capital and effectively controls key structures at City Hall.

“Chama ya ODM ndio chama kubwa hapa Nairobi. Hata hii governor Nairobi ni jina tu. ODM ndio governor hapa Nairobi,” Junet told the crowd, suggesting that ODM wields real power through elected leaders in the county assembly and Parliament.

Junet argued that Governor Sakaja, who was elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in 2022, operates in an environment where ODM-aligned leaders dominate county decision-making in the county.

According to Junet, Sakaja’s political survival depends on aligning with the Orange party ahead of the next election.

“Huyo Sakaja, kama ako bado na tamaa ya kurudi kama governor hapa Nairobi, aje ODM. Kama atabaki pale ako, ataanguko mpaka Yesu arudi,” Junet said, indicating that the party already has a preferred gubernatorial candidate but would consider Sakaja if he defects.

Junet also issued a warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, cautioning him against what he described as repeated attacks on ODM.

“Asicheze na chama ya ODM. Na awache hiyo matusi anapiga kila siku juu ya ODM,” he said, adding that the party would respond politically if provoked and would not tolerate continued opposition to its interests in Nairobi politics.

Outlining an aggressive strategy for the 2027 general election, Junet said ODM aims to capture all major elective positions in Nairobi, including the governorship, Senate seat, Woman Representative seat, and parliamentary constituencies such as Dagoretti North, Lang’ata, Mathare, Ruaraka, Embakasi East, Makadara, and Kibra.

“Andika leo… tutahakikisha wabunge wetu wote wamechaguliwa… Governor atakuwa ODM. Senator atakuwa ODM. Woman rep atakuwa ODM,” Junet declared.

ODM is positioning itself as the party to beat in the capital in 2027.
