President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political allies in Mt Kenya have resolved to kick off political activities in the vote-rich region to undo the narrative of Raila Odinga not being electable for the presidency, which has been sold in the region from 2007. Apart from making Mr. Odinga acceptable in the region, Uhuru Kenyatta is also going out to deconstruct the Hustler narrative by William Ruto that has seen residents from the president’s backyard turn their back against the ruling party.

Reforming the Jubilee Party and running a massive popularity drive in Mt Kenya is one of the strategies by the president’s men who argue, a reformed Jubilee Party joining hands with ODM to form a coalition with already identified like-minded parties to launch a fresh, political formation will see the ODM leader accepted in the president’s backyard.

According to former Maragua MP Elias Mbau, the time has come to face anti-Raila forces in Mt Kenya plus those against President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We are running out of patience now. We have the plan ready for implementation. It entails a direct confrontation of this undermining of our kingpin and his political investment in Mt Kenya region. We have come out in the open now to demand that project Odinga be rolled out. The President is now listening to us. He is ready to roll out the plan in Mt Kenya,” the former legislator said.

To convince the mountain to back Raila in 2022, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s men are pushing for a running from Mt Kenya with the names of former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s names are floated as possible candidates.

According to Majority Whip in the National Assembly Maoka Maore, the new coalition between President Uhuru’s Jubilee Party and Raila’s ODM should be alive before November this year. His sentiments are supported by his counterpart Junet Mohamed who discloses the two leaders will reveal their plan in September.

”The President and Mr. Odinga are up to something very concrete about our future and it shall be revealed by September. That is why those of us who support the handshake are behaving like the government…we are the post-handshake government,” Mr. Junet said.

In addition, the Kikuyu Council of Elders which has been at the forefront of selling Raila fear in Mt Kenya has also been tamed are part of the ongoing plans that will see the former PM work with the elders to his advantage.
