Inside Odinga’s 12 member presidential campaigns board

After announcing the appointment of Governor Nderitu Muriithi as the chair of his 2022 campaigns board, Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has added eleven more members to the team headed by the Laikipia county boss, among them governors Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui), and professors Peter Wanyande, Makau Mutua and Karuti Kanyinga. 

Others are business mogul Samuel Macharia, former Kenya Revenue Authority commissioner Elizabeth Meyo, former Nyeri Woman Representative Priscilla Nyokabi, Seth Kakusye, Betty Montet, Kanchory Saitaboi, and veteran journalist Ben Agina.

Elizabeth Meyo will serve as the boards secretary and CEO.

US based Prof Makau Mutua is a legal scholar and human rights activist who has been described as a personal friend of Raila Odinga.

Prof Karuti Kanyinga is a research professor of development studies at the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), UoN, while Ms Betty Montet is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. 

Prof Peter Wanyande is a scholar of political science at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and once served in the Commission for the Implementation of the 2010 Constitution. 

Priscilla Nyokabi currently serves as a commissioner of the National Gender and Equality Commission and is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Seth Kaksuye is a Kibwezi West politician and currently sits in the ODM Disciplinary Committee. In 2017, Mr Odinga persuaded him to step down in support of Mr James Mbaluka, then-Wiper’s candidate.

Kanchoru Saitaboi is a lawyer who once handled the case between Deputy President William Ruto and late Rtd Major John Koech over the leadership of the United Democratic Movement (UDM).
