By Jubilee poaching Matiang’i from Gachagua, they’ve just handed Mt. Kenya to Kalonzo.
Granted, Gachagua wasn’t enthusiastic about Matiangi from the word go. He now has a reason to loath him.
Matiangi is popular in Mt. Kenya yes, but for Mt. Kenya to even remotely dream of beating Ruto they need Ukambani more than they need Gusii Nyanza.
Kalonzo is known to have a ductile ambition but every politician know when not to stretch their luck.
I do not see Kalonzo deputizing Matiangi.
Can Gachagua abandon DCP for Jubilee? It won’t make sense to vote Matiangi in Jubilee and vote down races in DCP.
If — for argument’s sake — they do this and Matiangi wins, guess which party he will realize quickly he must ‘work with’ to stabilize such a rickety regime? Of course, ODM….or UDA.
There’s still the delusion that Gachagua himself can run, but that’s just that — a delusion. He’s impeached. And impeached people are barred from running just as a Kenyan who has served the nation as president for two terms is barred from seeking a third. Ni katiba, si Otwist.
The race for ‘joint opposition candidate’ is between Matiangi and Kalonzo. Matiangi is with Uhuru. Gachagua will either have to back Kalonzo, or go bow before Uhuru.
