Detectives based in Nakuru County have launched a manhunt looking for ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga days after raiding his homes in Nakuru, Laikipia, and Nairobi counties.

In a statement on 22nd Monday 2023, the DCI said the dragnet is in relation to the recovery of two firearms and over 90 rolls of bhang, found at a home linked to the former Mungiki leader.

”In the raid conducted at Ngomongo village in Dundori ward, the officers who arrested 8 suspects aged between 37 and 54 also found three rounds of 9mm blank ammunition hidden in one of the rooms,” a statement by the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reads in part.

”One of the firearms recovered was a home made pistol capable of firing while the other one was a Tokarev whose serial number had been defaced,” the DCI notes.

On 12th May, Njenga disclosed that his Laikipia and Nairobi homes were raided by security officers for reasons that remain unclear. However, at that time, the police denied knowledge of the raids.
