Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa says the shortest route to a Luhya presidency was through ODM leader Raila Odinga, whom he says, due to age will only serve one term as Head of State providing an opportunity for a leader from the Western region to succeed him.
Speaking on Monday to locals in Bungoma town, CS Wamalwa implored the people of Western Kenya to rally behind the former prime minister to the last man in 2022, saying he was the best bet for the region.
“As the Luhya community we should choose which route is easy in the succession politics, Odinga is old and will only serve one term, if we are loyal it is easy for us to be in the main succession politics,” the CS who was flanked by DAP-K party leader Wafuli Wamunyinyi and Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu said.

Eugene also told the gathering that he was forced to form the DAPK party after he saw persistent wrangles in the FordKenya party between two factions allied to Senator Moses Wetangula and MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.
“When I saw my brothers Eseli and Wamunyinyi quarrelling with Wetang’ula, I saw the need to separate brothers that’s why I invited them to join hands and form DAP-K ,” he said.
The CS said the outfit will work with Azimio la Umoja as instructed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the spirit of supporting the handshake.
Two weeks ago, Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, and Peter Munya of Agriculture were the chief guests at a Bomas of Kenya event where the splinter group of the Ford-Kenya party led by MPs Wafula Wamunyinyi and Eseli Simiyu launched the new party.
