Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has thrown down the gauntlet to the Linda Mwananchi movement, daring its organizers to go ahead with their planned rallies in Kisumu this weekend.
Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, Cherargei took a swipe at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of being overly fixated on the Linda Mwananchi campaign rather than focusing on key political agreements.
“If Linda Mwananchi are men enough, let them hold a rally in Vihiga and Kisumu,” Cherargei declared, sparking reactions across the political divide.
The senator further claimed that Sifuna had lost sight of the memorandum of understanding between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), suggesting that his attention had shifted entirely to the Linda Mwananchi agenda.
In a separate statement, Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi dismissed the planned Kisumu rally, insisting it would not take place. Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, Atandi said residents of Kisumu were not interested in the event and would not attend.
“The people of Kisumu are not interested in the rally. It will not happen,” Atandi asserted, adding that the movement’s agenda does not resonate with the region’s priorities.
The Linda Mwananchi ODM faction led by Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino insists the Kisumu rally is on and there is nothing their detractors can do to stop the rally slated for KaOwuor grounds in Car Wash.
