CAS Mungaro officially ditches Jubilee for ODM

1 min read

Lands CAS Gideon Mungaro on Monday in Kilifi dumped the ruling Jubilee Party to return to ODM, a party he ditched in 2017 while trying to unsuccessfully unseat Governor Amason Kingi.

Mungaro, who is currently a part of the former prime minister’s entourage was welcomed back to the party with Mr. Odinga who is currently on a three-day tour of the Coast region.

A month ago, the Lands CAS revealed that he is planning to vie for the Kilifi governor seat in 2022 under the ODM party ticket. He joins Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi for the ODM ticket in the race to replace Governor Amason Kingi.

Speaking in Malindi on Monday, Mungaro dismissed reports he had betrayed the party in 2017 when he joined Jubilee, saying he was the first politician to introduce ODM and its leaders to the coastal region, especially Kilifi county.

“I’m the one who brought ODM to Coast together with Tourism CS Najib Balala,”  the Lands CAS said.

Raila Odinga is currently at the coastal region to popularize his “Azimio la Umoja” rallying call ahead of December 9, when he will officially declare whether he will seek the presidency in 2022.
