The Opposition has canceled its earlier plans of holding a parallel Jamhuri Day on Monday at the Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi.
Opiyo Wandayi, the Minority Leader in the National Assembly announced on Friday afternoon the meeting has been called off due to an engagement top Opposition leaders will be having on 12th, but added their countrywide consultation rallies will continue.
”We wish to announce that Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party will not hold a parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12, 2022, as earlier planned. As Azimio, we promise that we shall continue to stand together and fight together until the Ruto regime [does] what matters to the people,” MP Wandayi’s statement read.
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, December 7 said the coalition will hold its parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations at Jacaranda Grounds on December 12.
While speaking at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi, Raila said the celebrations would feature traditional dancers as it has always been during national day celebrations.
“We will bring bands to play there. We will also bring traditional dancers because we do not want to go to other people’s celebrations. The President will have his celebrations at Nyayo Stadium while us, we will have ours at Jacaranda Grounds for Kenya’s patriots,” he said.
