Oburu, Raila Junior Meet as ODM Faces Political and Family Tests

Raila Odinga Junior met ODM leader Dr Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi residence on Tuesday, days after the veteran politician was discharged from hospital.

The meeting comes as Oburu takes a political break and steps back from the day-to-day management of ODM, having tasked Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati with steering the party in his absence.

It also comes as Junior increases his visibility within ODM, attending key party events and positioning himself for a possible bid for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

Junior has attended the party’s last three major political engagements in Garissa, Turkana and Nairobi, where senior ODM officials met on Monday to plan for Saturday’s rally at Jacaranda Grounds.

The meeting with Oburu also comes against the backdrop of a bitter succession dispute over the multi-billion-shilling estate of Kenya’s first Vice President, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Oburu, who previously co-administered the estate alongside his younger brother Raila, now faces a legal battle over the family inheritance, exposing tensions over the management and distribution of the family’s wealth.

Before his death, Raila had been a central figure in both the family’s political legacy and the administration of its vast estate.
