Otiende Amollo Says He Warned ODM Against Removing Sifuna as Secretary General

Rarieda MP and ODM Vice Chairperson Otiende Amollo has revealed that he cautioned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership against removing Senator Edwin Sifuna as the party’s Secretary General, warning that the move would weaken the party.

Speaking in Siaya on Friday, Otiende said he personally warned ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga against the move two days before the decision was made.

“Two days before the removal of Edwin Sifuna, I met Dr. Oburu Oginga and told him what you are about to do will destroy the party,” he said.

The legislator described the decision to oust Sifuna as unprocedural and improper, arguing that it would only serve to injure the party’s unity.

He recounted how during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that resolved to remove Sifuna, only three members, himself, Kisumu Woman Rep Ruth Odinga, and former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire opposed the move.

“Out of 41 NEC members, only three of us rejected the decision to oust Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General because it was unprocedural,” Otiende stated.

He added that his fears have since been confirmed because the removal of Sifuna has weakened ODM’s public image.

“True to my words, the removal of Sifuna has only weakened the party, just as I had warned,” he said.
