Gachagua Announces Mohammed Ali to Vie for Mombasa Governor on Wiper Ticket

Rigathi Gachagua has announced in Mombasa that Nyali MP Mohammed Ali will contest for the county’s gubernatorial seat on a Wiper ticket, and not the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking to media stations from the Coast region on Saturday, Gachagua revealed that he has reached an agreement with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to field Mohammed Ali as the united opposition candidate for the coastal county’s top seat.

“Huyu Mohamed Ali ni mtu yangu ya DCP, lakini nimekubaliana na my cousin Kalonzo Musyoka kwamba asimame na Wiper hapa Mombasa,” Gachagua said.

Mohammed Ali, a former investigative journalist turned politician, has expressed his interest in the seat and will face off with ODM’s Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir who will be seeking a second term.

Gachagua also clarified the opposition’s stance on electoral zoning, stating that there would be no zoning arrangements within the united opposition except in major urban centers such as Nairobi and Mombasa.

The decision by Rigathi Gachagua to have Mohammed Ali run on a Wiper ticket rather than his own DCP party appears to be informed by the party’s unpopularity outside Mt Kenya.
