I am the Opposition, Gachagua Tells Kenyans

During an interview on Kameme FM, Gachagua told Kenyans that the opposition leaders have left a lot of work for him.

Rigathi Gachagua said Opposition leaders can’t hold rallies without him: “I’m the Opposition” he declared during the media interview. The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader dismissed reports that his outbursts were slowly destroying the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Gachagua, if he stops talking about President William Ruto’s administration, the entire opposition goes silent. The former second in command argued that no leader of the United Opposition has held more meetings than him since the start of 2026

“When I go silent, the opposition goes silent. How can I destroy the opposition when I am the opposition? Even when I went to America, it went to meetings; no one in the opposition has done many meetings like me in January in the opposition,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua wondered how the opposition leaders were holding meetings in hotels and on social media, yet they plan to remove President Ruto from power.

“How can someone say I’ll be the reason Ruto comes back? How will Ruto be removed when you do not hold meetings? You must go out to the voters to look for votes. Where will you get voters when you are in hotels and the social media?” he posed.

How Gachagua warned Kalonzo Musyoka

Gachagua further cautioned Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka against dumping the Mt Kenya voting bloc and attempting to court the Nyanza region ahead of the 2027 election.

“I don’t think Kalonzo will be foolish to leave a man of 6 million votes for because of a million votes. He will be like Ruto. He left the mountain and went to Luo-Nyanza. He left 5 million votes in search of 1.5 million votes and right now ODM is fractured. I don’t think Kalonzo is that daft!”

As Gachagua goes around telling the opposition to just line up behind him, Kalonzo Musyoka already declared himself as a presidential candidate and launched his own manifesto and obviously Gachagua was not there when he held a big press conference to announce his plans.

The opposition is going to go on fire when nobody wants to back down for somebody else and Gachagua will demand that if it is not him running, even though he knows, as an impeached DP he cannot hold public office then Riggy will personally pick who is their candidate is. If others disagree with Gachagua’s choice, they will have no choice but to run themselves and hope that Ruto does not win a majority and wait for the run-off.

Ruto hits out at Gachagua over claims on his Mt Kenya popularity

In the meantime, Willliam Ruto is running over the heads of the opposition boys and was in Mt. Kenya areas talking with Kenyans while Gachagua is playing games with his of self-appointed “attackers” as his own toy goons to seek public mercy for him paying people to chase him around.

Speaking in Nyeri County on Monday, January 12, 2026, Ruto added that he remains focused on delivering his agenda to the people and will not be sidetracked by critics’ talks of ‘Wantam’ and ‘Kasongo must go’.

“We have people who think they can intimidate me with ‘Wantam’ and ‘Kasongo must go’ talks. I want to tell them that I am the president today because you gave me that mandate. You gave me a clear path of what you wanted us to achieve in healthcare, youth employment, the employment of teachers, and education,” he said.

“You are the ones to decide what everyone has achieved. I want to ask you to subject everyone to their work before you vote for them and decide,” he added.

Friendship with Mt Kenya

Ruto stated that his friendship with the region was solidified long ago while serving as deputy to the fourth president, Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We have people who go around claiming that they are the ones who made me popular in this region by carrying me on their backs. Nataka niwaulize watu wa Nyeri. Hii urafiki tulitengeneza pamoja na nyinyi wakati nilikuwa naibu wa Uhuru Kenyatta. Urafiki huo utaletewa kasheshe na mtu mmoja kweli?”

Here is the clown show that Gachagua thinks will win him some support as a man facing oppression from Ruto and will be Kenya’s next president. It is a complete circus.

President Ruto is right there in Nyeri talking to very lively crowds of people and the crazy one is chasing himself in Gatundu to look busy. You cannot win a damn thing with that my friends try something else or just lie down and rest in your bed.

Gachagua desperately wants to be Kenya’s Bobi Wine and he is working very hard to get there. May be Museveni can help him by sending some of his crooks over to fight with Gachagua goons.

As things move forward, the battles for the United Opposition to get one presidential candidate is going to hit the roof. Gachagua is already not happy that Fred Matiang’i refused his advice for him to form a Kisii party which is the Bible in Gachagua politics.

When asked to respond to respond to earlier advice to Matiang’i to engage in politics through his own party, advice that Matiang’i did not take, Gachagua used the opportunity to explain why he believes party ownership is critical in Kenyan politics and why Matiang’i should be wary of allies who previously worked under him but are now active in the Jubilee Party.

“For me, I don’t know because I had given him advice, and it is not a must that he does what I tell him. I had told him to make a political party so that he could consolidate his political base. A way to bring discipline to any region is by making a political party, or else people will disrespect you. For instance, ODM is saying they can’t support him because he is using a Kikuyu party (Jubilee),” Gachagua stated.

“I want to state that Riggy G is not hating any political party. It is because I cannot market others’ political parties. Let them hold their parties. Nobody will ask them. If it is the Jubilee Party, let them market their party,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua went on to explain why he believes some political actors within Jubilee cannot be trusted, linking them to President William Ruto’s camp and accusing them of remaining silent

Gachagua is also now getting into the nerves of Jeremiah Kioni who also is supposed to represent the same community Gachagua claims to own.

Kioni pledges Jubilee will champion national unity over divisive politics

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has pledged that the party will prioritise national unity over tribal, class, or religious divisions as it positions itself ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Jubilee has a clear, unified agreement: we will always approach issues from a national perspective. Our ideology is simple and firm: Kenya first! not tribe, class, or religion,” Kioni stated.

“We are committed to uniting our country and ending the cycle of divisive politics that has held us back for far too long. We know better,” he said

The Secretary General dismissed what he described as empty political rhetoric, suggesting that Kenyans deserve more substantive political discourse.

“Our country deserves better than empty rhetoric and hollow narratives,” Kioni stated.
