National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on Rift Valley residents to stand firmly behind President William Ruto as he seeks a second term in office, declaring that his leadership record already eclipses that of his predecessors.
Speaking at a fundraiser for St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Kapsabet, Wetang’ula asserted that the region needs no persuasion to support the Head of State, whom he described as a leader already delivering tangible results across multiple sectors.
“As residents of Rift Valley, we are preaching to the converted. You do not need to be mobilised or coerced to support your son for a second term because you know the direction the country is taking,” Wetang’ula told the gathering.
The Speaker brushed off Ruto’s critics, branding them as “self-seeking characters without an agenda.” He likened their opposition to veteran politician Kenneth Matiba’s unsuccessful calls for President Daniel arap Moi’s resignation in the 1990s, saying such efforts bore no fruit.
“We have told the President to ignore such noises the way a cow ignores the croaking of frogs and continues to drink water,” he remarked, urging Ruto to focus on delivering for Kenyans.
Wetang’ula praised the administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic stability, insisting that ordinary citizens are already witnessing progress. His sentiments were reinforced by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang’, who argued that Ruto’s two-year track record surpasses what previous administrations achieved in similar periods.
“People are unfairly asking why the President has not achieved in two years what others did in their ninth or tenth years. If you compare Dr. Ruto’s first two years with theirs, you will find that he has exceeded expectations,” Governor Sang’ emphasized.
As Ruto navigates mounting opposition pressure ahead of 2027, Wetang’ula’s remarks underscore the fierce political battle lines already being drawn. Supporters in Rift Valley now frame his reelection not merely as a political contest, but as a validation of his performance-driven leadership.
