The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled a major recruitment drive that will see 45,000 opportunities opened for teachers across the country, marking one of the largest single intakes in recent years. The move is aimed at strengthening leadership in schools and supporting the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
In a notice issued on Tuesday, August 12, the Commission announced 21,000 vacancies in senior teacher, head teacher, deputy head teacher, senior curriculum support, chief principal, and deputy principal positions.
Successful applicants will be posted to institutions where vacancies exist, with the process conducted exclusively through the TSC online portal. Manual applications will not be considered.
TSC emphasized that transparency and fairness will guide the recruitment, with priority also given to qualified persons with disabilities. “Successful candidates shall be posted to schools where vacancies are available,” the Commission stated, assuring the public of a merit-based process.
In addition to the permanent positions, TSC is inviting applications for 24,000 internship posts in Junior Schools. The internships, set to run for 12 months, are designed to bolster CBC delivery while offering young teachers valuable experience.
To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens with at least a diploma in education, a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in both the KCSE and in two teaching subjects, and valid registration with TSC.
Applicants must be currently unemployed, hold Personal Accident Insurance cover, and present supporting documents such as a Teacher Registration Certificate, National ID, KRA PIN, and two passport photos. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of Ksh20,000, although the program is classified as non-remunerative.
With the CBC transition demanding more classroom leaders and skilled educators, the TSC’s latest recruitment drive could significantly ease staffing shortages, improve learning outcomes, and inject new energy into Kenya’s education system.
For many aspiring teachers, this announcement represents both a career opportunity and a chance to shape the future of learning in the country.
