The Standard Group has appointed News anchor Sophia Wanuna as the acting Editor days after sacking its Head of Strategy and content editor Peter Opondo.

Through an Internal memo, the Media House announced that Wanuna will take charge of the segment until further notice and called on cooperation from other staff.

“Last Friday, our Editor Broadcasting Peter Opondo left the company to pursue other interests. I have therefore appointed Ms Sophia Wanuna to take charge of this segment until further notice,” the memo by Editor in Chief Ochieng Rapuro read.

Opondo’s employment was terminated on Friday, July 16, 2021, for unsatisfactory performance. Announcing on Linked In, the media consultant said that he was given the option of resigning or get fired and he opted for the latter.

“I was sacked! Life isn’t all about highs, sometimes it’s about lows. We rarely talk about our lows, so let me share mine. This past week, the Standard Group sacked me. I have worked for many employers over the past 20 years…it is the first time I am terminated for “unsatisfactory performance” Peter Opondo wrote.

Word is, Opondo was fired following the interview with Deputy President William Ruto. He has barely served at the organization for six months. The interview, according to sources did not go well with the top-level management.

For instance, it was organized by both Sophia Wanuna and Peter Opondo, however, one was fired and the other promoted.

With the Media house linked to the Moi Family, chances are Opondo was sacked for his close association to the DP William Ruto who is a political competitor to Gideon Moi, son to Daniel Moi who owns the organization.
