CS Wycliffe Oparanya says Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna should sit down with him and explain his political plans if he wants his blessing ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Monday in response to Sifuna’s public appeal for his endorsement, Oparanya said blessings are not given casually but require a formal conversation where the senator can outline his ambitions and how they align with the interests of Kenyans.
“If you want blessing, you don’t ask for it while you’re on the way. You have to come, then we sit down and talk. Come and sit down with me so that I can know where you are coming from and where you are going,” Oparanya said.
The former Kakamega governor added that he also has ideas that could benefit the people and suggested that the two leaders could pool their visions together for the greater good.
“I also have ideas that can help our people. Let us put those ideas together,” he said.
Oparanya, however, made it clear that his immediate focus is on serving in the broad-based government and ensuring that Kenyans receive the services they deserve, indicating that he is not yet ready to engage in full-blown 2027 election politics.
His remarks came after Sifuna publicly appealed to him for his blessing during the Linda Mwananchi grassroots mobilisation tour in Sabatia, Kakamega County on Saturday.
Sifuna described the former governor as a father figure who had nurtured him through the ranks of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
“Oparanya, I respect you greatly, but today I have come to Sabatia to ask for your vote. If you support Sifuna, we will not lose,” the Nairobi senator said.
Sifuna went further, asking Oparanya to bless his political journey even if the former governor did not agree with his presidential ambitions.
“I am asking you to bless me as I embark on this journey, even if you do not agree with me. Just your blessing, not money. I am not asking you for anything else,” Sifuna pleaded.
In earlier remarks, Oparanya had said Sifuna had not approached him to declare his interest in the presidency, though he left the door open for the senator to seek his blessing if he wished to pursue the top seat.
