Kalonzo signals possible truce with Ruto if president wins fairly
What happened in Bondo Town was historic and should be respected by Kenyan politicians. Here was Kalonzo Musyoka with his Ukombozi Alliance team in town to popularize their opposition campaign for 2027 and there was peace and quiet everywhere in the church and outside as Bondo folks welcomed them in their community.
That is what Kenya needs going forward and then 2027 elections will be marvelous for everybody and whoever wins good luck and let the country move forward. That also seem to be the message Kalonzo Musyoka had for Bondo residents when he talked to them.
I always call the place Bondo City because I love so many things in that town but now, they are proving us all right.
In media reports, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka appeared to signal that the Opposition could consider a truce with President William Ruto if he defeats them in a free and fair 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a church service in Siaya county, Kalonzo called on the President to stop attacking retired President Uhuru Kenyatta over his alleged financial support for the Opposition and instead focus on him as a political rival.
Kalonzo said the 2027 contest should be conducted in a democratic manner, with both sides prepared to accept the outcome of the election.
“If you beat us, we will have to consider if you have behaved yourself, and if we beat you, we have to look at all these things,” he said.
The Wiper leader said Kenya needed to strengthen its democratic institutions and avoid political confrontations that could further destabilise the country.
“We have a nation here. We have to make this country truly democratic. I do not think we have a shortcut,” he said.
Kalonzo also defended Uhuru against accusations that the retired President was financing the Opposition, arguing that presidential campaigns have historically relied on support from friends and political allies rather than family resources alone.
“But here we are saying, please let Uhuru rest; he is a retired President. Stop saying he is our financier,” he said.
The Wiper leader warned that Kenya was facing a difficult political moment and urged leaders to avoid actions that could worsen the country’s situation.
“We should not allow the country to get to a worse situation than where it is. We are on the edge of a cliff; the country is at a crossroads,” he said.
Kalonzo’s remarks come as opposition leaders continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with discussions ongoing over the possibility of fielding a joint presidential candidate to challenge Ruto.
The former Vice President has been among the leaders seeking to consolidate the Opposition around a common candidate, while also calling for a democratic electoral process and a peaceful transfer of power.
And of course, James Orengo no show for the rallies was a problem limited to him mercifully. He had other issues to deal with.
