Raila Odinga’s Social Media Accounts to Be Managed by RAO Foundation

The social media accounts of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga will now be managed by the RAO Foundation, an organisation recently established to preserve and promote his legacy.

Following the transition, Raila’s X (formerly Twitter) bio was updated on Thursday, October 30, to reflect the new management structure. The account, which commands nearly five million followers, will henceforth be used to celebrate the ODM leader’s life, values, and contribution to Kenya’s democracy.

“This page is managed by The RAO Foundation in honour of the legacy of the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, CGH. Father, Prime Minister, Enigma, Hero, Baba. 1945–2025,” the updated bio reads.

The Foundation is expected to use Raila’s social media platforms to share key moments from his life, highlight his decades-long advocacy for democracy and human rights, and promote messages of peace and national unity.

Besides his X account, the late ODM leader also commands a large audience on Facebook, where he has over 2.3 million followers. His last activity on X was a retweet of a post by his son, Raila Odinga Junior, showing footage of his installation as the new head of the Odinga family. On Facebook, his final post was on October 3, when he shared a video from his meeting with the management of Gor Mahia Football Club.

The move to transfer control of the accounts comes as part of wider efforts to honour Raila’s memory and ensure continuity of his political and social ideals. The former Prime Minister passed away on October 15, 2025, after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Following his death, several leadership changes have taken place within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). His elder brother, Dr Oburu Odinga, has been appointed the interim party leader, following a unanimous endorsement by the ODM Central Management Committee during a meeting held on October 27.

In addition, the Committee resolved that the ODM party will continue cooperating with President William Ruto’s administration until 2027, in line with the broad-based political agreement reached in March 2025 between Raila and President Ruto.

The RAO Foundation’s management of Raila’s online presence marks the beginning of a new chapter in preserving the legacy of one of Kenya’s most influential and enduring political figures.
