Raila hosts South Sudan VP Nyandeng de Mabior as he activates regional connections ahead of 2022

ODM leader Raila Odinga on February 18th hosted one of the Vice Presidents of Sudan Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior, wife to the country’s founding father John de Mabior Garang at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi.

South Sudan and Kenya enjoy a close relationship given the pivotal role Kenya played in the former’s self-determination. South Sudan gained independence from Sudan on 9 July 2011 as the outcome of a 2005 agreement that ended Africa’s longest-running civil war.

”Hosted Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior one of the Vice Presidents of South Sudan. I was pleased to listen to her insights on the situation, developments, challenges and opportunities in her country. We wish the people and Nation of South Sudan well,” Odinga wrote.

Eventhough he has not declared whether he will run in 2022 or not, Raila Odinga has intensified his political activities locally and some believe he is activating his international connections ahead of 2022.

The AU Envoy enjoys a close relationship with the Garang family and has been a close ally of the South Sudan people. Made up of the 10 southern-most states of Sudan, South Sudan is one of the most diverse countries in Africa.
