President William Ruto now says Kisumu and its environs is set to reap big from 15,000 affordable housing units’ constructed in the first phase of the ongoing project.
Ruto, in a tour of the region, announced that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has donated 5 acres of his family land in Kirembe area to the national government to put up more housing units.
Ruto lauded Odinga for the gesture saying the government through the housing program will invest a total of Ksh.3.5 billion in the parcel which will benefit close to 1000 locals.
Ruto said the construction of Lumumba affordable housing units is ongoing and targets to benefit 2000 locals and alleviate housing ownership challenges.
Speaking on Thursday at Kirembe grounds where he laid a foundation stone in the multi billion LV Marina housing units associated with Odinga, Ruto said his government is committed to have Kenyans own homes.
The Head of State, while addressing hundreds of residents who turned up to witness the ceremony, also asked Kenyans to ignore naysayers who he said are only interested in the politics of division and tribalism.
Odinga, who accompanied the President, on his part affirmed that he will continue to work closely with the current administration to help address challenges Kenyans are facing.
Odinga says the 5-acre donation will go a long way in addressing the housing needs of locals in the area adding that the project will have key amenities like schools and hospitals.
