Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has revealed that detectives have obtained fresh leads into the killing of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was gunned down along Magadi Road, Nairobi, on September 8.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Monday evening, Kanja said investigations were at an advanced stage, with several individuals linked to the gruesome murder already under the radar. He directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite the probe and ensure timely progress.
“Investigations are in progress, and I have directed the DCI that we need to move with speed. Currently, we are following very useful leads,” Kanja stated. He confirmed that three people had been arrested earlier but were cleared after further scrutiny.
The IG, however, declined to provide a timeline, noting that detectives needed adequate time to complete the sensitive probe. He also expressed concern over the reluctance of witnesses to share information that could help trace the killers.
DCI boss Mohamed Amin echoed Kanja’s sentiments, stressing that a robust team from the homicide department was already on the case. Amin confirmed the arrest and release of three persons of interest but maintained that apprehending the culprits remained a top priority.
Sources privy to the investigations revealed that detectives have narrowed their focus to seven individuals, including family members, staff, and close associates of Mbobu. Others being questioned include a company director involved in a court battle with the slain lawyer. Investigators have also retrieved documents from Mbobu’s office to aid in the probe.
Amin urged Kenyans to exercise patience, assuring that detectives were sifting through critical evidence in pursuit of justice.
