Ngunjiri Wambugu Says William Ruto Doesn’t Need Many Votes from Mt Kenya to Win in 2027

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has predicted an easy win for President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

During an interview on NTV on Monday, January 19, Wambugu suggested that Ruto is no longer dependent on the populous Mt Kenya region voting bloc as he was during the 2022 elections.

According to Wambugu, the political landscape in the country has shifted significantly in Ruto’s favour since his election victory in 2022.

For instance, the former Nyeri Town lawmaker said the death of former prime minister Raila Amollo Odinga gave Ruto an added advantage ahead of the next poll.

He argued that without Raila, the president is no longer afraid of the United Opposition, consisting of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

“Ruto doesn’t need very many votes in Mt Kenya at the moment. It’s not like in 2022, where Mt Kenya was what needed to come out for him. Baba has gone, so literally Ruto is a big boy, the only big boy in the block right now. I think he’s in a very good place; when you look at him, he looks so much happier,” Wambugu said.

Wambugu pointed out that many regions that overwhelmingly voted for Raila in 2022 are confused, giving Ruto a big chance to get more votes.

“The coast, Nyanza, and Western are just struggling and confused. So, I think he’s in a very good place. When you look at him, he looks so much happier,” he added.
