Kisumu Upbeat As Dualing of Kisumu Boys–Mamboleo Road Nears Completion After Years of Neglect

The dualing of the Kisumu Boys–Mamboleo (A1) Road, implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority, is nearing completion, marking a major boost to Kisumu’s urban infrastructure.

The project by President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza involved the rehabilitation and reconstruction of a 4.6-kilometre stretch of the A1 highway into a modern dual carriageway with a 7-metre-wide main road, 2.5-metre outer shoulders, 6-metre service lanes and 3-metre pedestrian and cycle tracks.

”Extensive works were undertaken including earthworks, upgrading of pavement layers, laying of cement-improved gravel and crushed stone bases, new asphalt surfacing, drainage improvements, as well as installation of street lighting and modern road furniture,” Interior PS Raymond Omollo said on Saturday.

This expansion is a vital artery into Kisumu City’s Central Business District (CBD). By improving connectivity between Mamboleo and the city centre, the new dual carriageway is expected to unlock opportunities for trade, investment and tourism, while making daily commutes safer and more efficient for thousands of residents and visitors.
