Governor Kingi’s new party to back ODM’s presidential candidate

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has vowed to campaign and rally support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) presidential candidate in the 2022 general elections, Raila Odinga.

In a surprise move after ditching the orange party five months ago, the Kilifi county boss says his Pamoja Africa Alliance (PAA) will not be fielding a presidential candidate next year, and will instead campaign and mobilize support for the former prime minister to clinch the top seat.

“PAA will not field a presidential candidate in 2022 but will back Mr. Odinga,” Governor Kingi said at a political gathering in Malindi over the weekend, remarks which were supported by PAA director of communications Joe Kiragu, who disclosed the party will give more details this week Tuesday.

“The party will be releasing an official way forward at a meeting to be convened this coming Tuesday,” he said.

According to reports, the Kilifi governor has been holding meetings with top allies of Mr. Odinga, as well as with the former prime minister himself in attempts to ensure the Coastal strip backs Raila as a block.

While announcing their attendance at last week’s Azimio la Umoja convention in Nairobi, Kingi, also the PAA leader said their outfit shared the dream of a united country, as championed by the Azio la Umoja Movement.

”PAA will champion and support any effort being made to unite the country, including the Azimio la Umoja initiative,” Kingi wrote on Twitter.

With this new declaration of supporting Odinga for the top seat, it is now expected that the party will be joining hands with ODM to completely lock out William Ruto’s UDA from the Coastal region.
