Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says Azimio leader Raila Odinga will be arrested if he heads to State House tomorrow during Azimio coalition demos.

Speaking in Nandi county where he accompanied President William Ruto on a Thanksgiving Sunday church service, DP Gachagua also pleaded with former president Uhuru Kenyatta to talk to ODM leader Raila Odinga to call off the Monday demonstrations.

”Na mimi nimepanga, unajua yeye ni mtu ya kutumia njia ya kandokando. Pale ikulu nimeweka mitego kila mahali akionekana ananaswa,” Gachaguia said.

On Sunday, Raila Odinga asked his supporters to converge at Nairobi CBD before the start of the demo and march towards State House.

In response, the Kenya Police through Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei says it has denied the Azimio Coalition permit to hold its peaceful demonstrations in the city tomorrow.

Speaking to the press from Vigilante House, Bungei noted the protests do not meet the legal requirements set by the police and as such will be illegal.

”We are in receipt of requests. One that came last evening and one today morning. One from Azimio la Umoja and one from Nairobi Business Community. However, both do not meet the thresholds of the law and their requests were therefore denied. The Public Order Act Section 5 states any person intending to holding a protest must notify the police three days prior but not more than 14 days,” Bungei said.

The Nairobi Regional Commander also insisted State House, where the Azimio Coalition intents to march is an unauthorized area.

“State House has been mentioned as an area of concern. Under the laws of Kenya, it is an unauthorized area. Kenyans must be guided by the law, not persons of interest. You are not allowed in certain areas, whether peacefully or not,” he added.
