Gachagua Impeachment is Done: Now the Chaos Begin

5 mins read

Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suddenly fell ill on Thursday and was admitted to hospital, causing a temporary halt to his impeachment trial in the Senate.

At the last minute when the DP was supposed to appear in the senate and face cross-examination on his impeachment hearing DP Rigathi Gachagua is reported to have fallen sick and is now admitted at Karen Hospital.

DP Gachagua assembles Paul Muite-led team of 20 lawyers to defend him against impeachment

The DP’s lawyers have put up a fight since the process begun and have not won a single case.

First was the case that the Kenya Parliament which ruled on the impeachment of DP Gachagua was an illegal parliament and government since they did not meet the 2/3 gender rule enshrined in our constitution in 2010

The question is where have these people been for 12 years? That is how the parliament has been. It does not have the 2/3 gender rule. Does that mean everything that has come from parliament is illegal? That was a stupid case and it was thrown out. And the lawyers got paid handsomely by Gachagua. Keep going.

The second case they have filed and they know it is going to be thrown out is that the public participation process was not done the way it is supposed to be done. The court ruled that public participation should be done at the constituency level and not at the county head office. That is the way it was done at every constituency. The court did not rule on how it should be done like saying take one or two weeks to do it. So it was done as per the court ruling.

The real deal here is that our parliament working with the AG Dorcas Oduor should now go ahead and formulate an act of parliament that specifies how public participation should be done after the courts ruled it is a necessity on such fundamental national decisions for the citizens of the republic.

And there are many others like the Finance Bill coming soon and the Adani JKIA takeover which is going to be the biggest nightmare for the Ruto government, forget Gachagua.

How is the Public Participation in the Adani takeover of JKIA going to be handled?

That is what the AG has to set up now.

Yes do it at the constituency level but how many days or weeks should it take? Decide on that and also have both sides present their case to the voters and then have a fair voter counting system.

Should the IEBC be involved in public participation on issues like tax bills and the Adani Scandal? Those issues are coming for the country in rapid time from now. Those are conditions the country cannot change.

Now Gachagua falls sick just before he is supposed to testify and be cross-examined in court.

Gachagua’s lawyers: Why we walked out of ouster trial

Lawyers representing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in his impeachment case have said they had no reason to continue with the case without the presence of their client.

The bigger question is why President Ruto is overthrowing his Deputy President Ragathi Gachagua? The answer is we do not know why. That is up to them and Kenyans do not care. Next? That is the question in Jamhuri.

As for the next DP, everybody is making suggestions and that is fine.

I would ask William Ruto to pick Prof. Ayang’ Nyong’o the Kisumu Governor as his his DP. He is a brilliant person. He knows the issues that affect and concern the country. He will help the president deal with those issues and concerns.

As a DP he will be perfect when he runs for the presidency in 2027 with maybe Anne Waiguru as the DP. He is a one-term president. It gets all good from there. Why not?
