From Boardrooms to Backyards: How Lillian Ngala Is Building Careers and Homes Through Connection and Compassion

After two decades of steering human resource practices in some of Kenya’s leading institutions, Lillian Ngala has emerged not only as a strategic leader in corporate boardrooms but also as a compassionate force in her community.

Currently serving as the HR Director at Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Kenya, Lillian is redefining the power of professional networks and social impact.

Through her newly established platform, the Lillian Ngala Network (LNN), Lillian is on a mission to equip emerging professionals with tools that extend beyond academic qualifications. “In my 20 years in HR, I’ve seen highly talented individuals miss out on life-changing opportunities, not due to a lack of skill, but a lack of connection,” she shares.

LNN is built on the belief that authentic networking can be a career catalyst. The platform offers mentorship, peer learning, and access to seasoned industry players, helping young professionals unlock opportunities that often remain hidden behind closed doors.

But her impact doesn’t stop at networking events and LinkedIn masterclasses. In Homa Bay County, her home turf, Lillian is addressing a different kind of need, shelter.

Through the Lillian Ngala Foundation, she’s working to uplift widows by helping them build decent homes. “It’s about dignity,” she explains. “Many of these women have been left vulnerable by the loss of a spouse, and giving them a safe place to live is the first step in restoring their independence.”

At the heart of both initiatives are the values that have guided her entire career: fairness, humanity, and purpose. Whether she’s coaching a graduate on how to navigate job interviews or laying the foundation of a home in Homa Bay, Lillian is living proof that leadership is as much about service as it is about strategy.
