Raila Odinga, Kenya’s candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chair, received a significant boost in his bid for the position following a meeting with former Somalia Foreign Affairs Minister, Fawzia Yusuf Adam.
Fawzia, who recently withdrew from the race for the AUC Chair, pledged her support for Odinga’s candidacy.
This endorsement is seen as a major advantage for Odinga, as Fawzia enjoys substantial support across the continent.
The meeting between Odinga and Fawzia took place amidst reports that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre had withdrawn their support for Fawzia and were backing Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, for the AUC Chair.
