Congratulations to Edwin Sifuna and his TEP Party. Now, the Challenge is What Comes Next

The media hype on the Edwin Sifuna rise to be a presidential candidate in 2027 is pretty expected. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the newly appointed leader of The Equitable Party (TEP) has vowed to remain an astute leader as he gears to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at the launch of the party on Sunday, Sifuna vowed that he will steer the party with integrity and political decorum.

“I want to assure you that I will not let you down,” he said.

The presidential hopeful said that the party will prioritize change and people-centered leadership, a policy he believes will be the antidote to Kenya’s political ills.

“We believe in equal opportunities for everyone in this nation. We will listen before we speak, consult before we decide and explain policies and account all our actions,” Sifuna stated.

“I have no capacity on my own to create a movement, it belongs to all of you who have chosen the path of change.”

The poised legislature maintained that the party will be swift to be accountable when it makes ill-advised decisions and will invite democratic engagement with its citizens and supporters.

“TEP does not come with a magic wand that will wipe away all our problems but we intend to provide a platform through which these concerns can be heard through democratic institutions,” he said.

Senator Sifuna has maintained that his movement has already onboarded a team of experts who act as a beacon of making sober governance decisions and avoid “voodoo economics”.

“They say that if we deal decisively with budgeted corruption it is possible to do away with Housing Levy and VAT on fuel and electricity,” Sifuna intimated.

“They assure me that these interventions will have an immediate impact on the cost of living and even unemployment crisis.”

Sifuna’s awaited presidential contest has been endorsed by other leaders among them Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Senators Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Boni Khalwale (Kakamega) and Siaya Governor James Orengo.

“With Sifuna I have unqualified opinion that he is fit to be the President of Kenya and I will not change that position,” Orengo said.

Sifuna cheer leaders like Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale are already crying big victory because they want to use the Sifuna wave to win governor seats in Kakamega and elsewhere.

Khalwale: Sifuna’s party has registered 1m members in less than 24 hours

Khalwale said the party attracted 1,084,736 members less than 10 hours after its launch

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s The Equitable Party (TEP) registered more than one million members within hours of its unveiling.

Khalwale made the claim on X, saying the party had attracted 1,084,736 members less than 10 hours after its launch.

“It is not even 24 hours since Linda Mwananchi took over The Equitable Party. And now look how Kenyans are registering to join in their millions,” Khalwale posted.

The membership figure had not been independently verified at the time of the claim.

For someone like Boni Khalwale if tying himself around a Sifuna presidential candidacy can win him the governor job for Kakamega County, that is great for him. How about if Sifuna is not the opposition candidate? Khalwale would go nuts. Then what?

And there are hundreds of desperate politicians hanging on a possible Sifuna presidency candidacy as their hope for life.

Tony Gachoka: Gachagua’s declaration to deputize Sifuna is a 2027 game changer to some
Tony Gachoka: Gachagua’s declaration to deputise Sifuna is a 2027 game changer

KANU Spokesperson Tony Gachoka speaks during the unveiling ceremony of the Kalonzo Musyoka presidential campaign platform.

Kenya African National Union (KANU) Spokesman Tony Gachoka has described former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s declaration that he is willing to deputise Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the 2027 presidential race as a ‘game changer’.

Gachoka, who turned 58 on Monday, September 7, made the remarks while publicly endorsing Sifuna for the presidency, arguing that the proposed political alliance could significantly reshape the race for State House.

In a post on X, Gachoka said Gachagua’s willingness to serve as Sifuna’s running mate had changed the political calculations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Rigathi Gachagua’s declaration that he will deputise Edwin Sifuna is a game changer,” Gachoka said.

Gachoka backs Sifuna for State House

Gachoka said he was using his 58th birthday to make what he termed a historic endorsement of Sifuna as Kenya’s sixth president.

He linked his support for the Nairobi senator to their shared political history and their association with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whom he described as their friend and mentor.

“Reminiscing our time in politics, I met Sifuna with Baba, so as I embark on running for Governor of Nairobi, both our biggest influence has been Raila Odinga; truly our friend and mentor,” he said.

Gachoka also recalled that Raila was the chief guest during his 50th birthday celebrations, saying his latest political decision was also an opportunity to honour the former opposition chief.

Once the dancing stops, the big story for Edwin Sifuna and his TEP team whoever they are is whether the guy really have a chance to be nominated as the opposition presidential candidate to face President William Ruto in 2027.

Will Kalonzo Musyoka give as his hope to be Kenyan President when he thinks it is so close to his door? Can Kalonzo really step aside for Edwin Sifuna to be nominated as the opposition candidate?

That is just not possible and there is no need to even debate it but those are the problems the Kenya so-called united opposition have to deal with as the 2027 elections gets closer.

Then the opposition has their primary leader, Rigathi Gachagua now wasting his time in the USA for the last two months. But the guy needs time for fun and all that in the USA.

Gachagua says US tour has proved critics wrong after impeachment

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has turned the spotlight on his political life after impeachment, saying predictions that he would quickly fade away have been contradicted by the reception he is receiving during his tour of the United States.

Addressing Kenyans living in Massachusetts, Boston, on Friday, October 2, 2026, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader revisited the events surrounding his removal from office and the expectations that his political career would soon be over.

Gachagua said his critics believed impeachment would push him out of public life, but claimed he had instead continued to draw attention during his engagements across the US.

He said his current tour had taken him to different states, where he has met Kenyans as well as millionaires and billionaires whom he said were interested in hearing his views.

“The story of Rigathi Gachagua, after he was hounded out of office, is a story that will be told for many years, many years,” he said.

The former Deputy President said he had been portrayed as a politician whose influence would disappear immediately after leaving office.

“A man who was killed and buried is now all over America, meeting millionaires and billionaires eager to listen to him, moving from one state to another, and Kenyans waiting for his every word every day,” he said.

Gachagua said the interest in his statements had continued despite his departure from government, claiming that Kenyans were keen to follow his comments and engagements.

He said some people now wake up wanting to know what he had said during his meetings in the US, which he presented as evidence that the predictions about his political future had not come to pass.

‘Banished to Wamunyoro’

Gachagua also recalled how his political future was discussed after his removal, saying some of his opponents expected him to retreat to his rural home and remain away from public affairs.

“This was a man who was killed, buried, and banished to a village called Wamunyoro,” he said.

He then referred to remarks he attributed to Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa after his impeachment.

According to Gachagua, Barasa had said he would not even be able to address a village gathering in Wamunyoro following his removal from office.

Gachagua used his meetings with Kenyans in the US to contrast those predictions with the turnout he says he has witnessed during his tour.

“There I am,” Gachagua said, before pointing to the attendance at his engagements.

He specifically compared his meetings in Texas with an engagement President William Ruto held with Kenyans in New York, claiming that his events attracted a larger number of Kenyans.

“My meetings in Texas were bigger than the one Ruto had in New York. I had more Kenyans,” he said.

Gachagua further claimed that the pattern had continued in other parts of the US, saying his meetings had attracted large numbers of Kenyans wherever he had travelled.

“Wherever I’ve gone, I have more Kenyans,” he said.

Here is the frank deal for the opposition. Will DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua accept a presidential opposition ticket without a DCP candidate and the answer looks pretty obvious when Gachagua says he controls 6 million opposition votes.

Once Edwin Sifuna does not get the presidential nor DP nominee from the opposition his TEP crumbles to pieces and that is politics which he will have to learn from as he goes forward.

Who knows, Edwin Sifuna may decide to run independently and choose Boniface Mwangi as his DP candidate. Now we are talking about some serious presidential race in 2027, aren’t we?

In reality, Edwin Sifuna may be lucky if the United Opposition group nominates him for the Nairobi governor job as some kind of a plea to him to take time. But Sifuna’s best buddy Babu Owino has declared himself the next Nairobi Governor.

Good luck with all that because Sakaja seems to be moving somewhere.

Sakaja: Gikomba project will silence doubters and transform Nairobi

The governor said the project would improve trading conditions at one of Nairobi’s busiest commercial centres

Traders at Gikomba are weeks away from occupying a modernised market facility after the first phase of its redevelopment reached 98 per cent completion, Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has said.

The governor said the project would improve trading conditions at one of Nairobi’s busiest commercial centres despite political opposition that he claimed had threatened to derail the redevelopment.

Phase One comprises three modern blocks, each designed to accommodate 2,000 traders, creating space for about 6,000 traders.

Each block has a ground floor and two upper floors, with facilities including ablution areas, enhanced security and a dedicated fire station.

The blocks are also linked by delivery paths designed to ease the movement of goods. Traders will be able to move between the blocks without having to descend to the ground.

“This is a game-changing project that will change the economy of Gikomba. It was on the verge of not happening because of politics, but because we value our traders, we vowed to continue. And here we are—it is becoming a reality,” Sakaja said.
