Suba South Member of Parliament (MP) Caroli Omondi has announced that he will never again contest for any political seat under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station on Monday, March 23, 2026, Omondi, who currently serves as the Azimio la Umoja secretary general, stated that he is in his final days within ODM. He emphasized that he intends to continue practising the principles and beliefs of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, even outside the party framework.
“It is not a must for one to uphold Raila’s ideals while being inside the party,” Omondi said, adding, “ODM will splinter in a few months… I will not run on the ODM ticket again; I’m on my way out of the party.”
Omondi predicted a looming split within ODM, citing deepening internal wrangles that have intensified since Raila Odinga’s death. He suggested that the party could soon divide into two factions — one retaining the official ODM documents and another walking away with the majority of supporters who still believe in Raila’s ideologies.
He further alleged that the ODM party, which he described as Raila’s political legacy, was “sold” during a meeting held in December in Transmara. Omondi claimed he had been invited to the meeting but chose not to attend.
The remarks come at a time when ODM is grappling with internal divisions following the emergence of two rival camps: “Linda Ground,” led by Raila’s elder brother Oburu Odinga, and “Linda Mwananchi,” spearheaded by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
The two factions have been locked in a fierce contest for control of the party, with Sifuna’s group vowing not to allow what it calls “the soul of ODM” to be handed over to the state.
