Bayern Munich, Ajax Lined Up for Talanta Stadium Opening Match

German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam are reportedly being lined up for a blockbuster friendly at Nairobi’s Talanta International Stadium in January 2027, ahead of AFCON.

The proposed clash could mark the stadium’s inaugural football fixture, with President William Ruto expected to announce the plans on Wednesday evening, October 28.

Neither club has publicly confirmed the encounter, and official match details remain unclear.

The 60,000-seater facility, also known as Raila Odinga International Stadium, is a flagship project ahead of Kenya’s co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

President Ruto had previously disclosed that the government was seeking international clubs to feature in the stadium’s opening match.

Construction was reported to be about 94 per cent complete during an inspection earlier this month, with technical and operational work still outstanding.

The proposed European showdown would offer Kenyan fans a rare chance to watch two continental heavyweights on home soil while providing a major test of the stadium’s readiness ahead of AFCON 2027.

The facility is also scheduled to host international rugby sevens on January 23 and 24, 2027.
