‘Take your boreholes back to Canada!’ Backlash as Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi threatens NGO
When Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mulyungi opened his mouth to speak to his constituents nobody had any idea the amount of filth that would ooze from it. By any standards of Kenyan MPs, it was not surprising but pretty scary for the people who need water in his Mwingi constituency in Kitui County.
Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mulyungi has sparked widespread outrage across Mwingi after issuing a stern ultimatum to Lifewater Canada, an international non-governmental organization (NGO) providing clean water infrastructure in arid regions.
In a viral video clip, the lawmaker from the drought-hit area is seen demanding that the non-profit involve him before sinking boreholes in the constituency or immediately cease operations, pack up and leave.
“Lifewater Canada, I want to tell you: this is Mwingi Central in Kitui County, in Kenya. We do not like corruption. Lifewater Canada, we don’t want corruption. You must involve the community, and you must involve the area Member of Parliament who is Gideon Mulyungi,” he threatened, attracting a smattering of applause from the crowd.
“And if you don’t do that, you can take your boreholes back to Canada! Take your boreholes back to Canada! Washindwe, wasishindwe!?”
Mulyungi went on the attack in Kamba, reiterating that any foreign donor operating without his explicit clearance should pack up their equipment and leave, questioning their motives for bypassing local political leadership and not economically involving the area residents.
“Do you want him to involve you or not? Once he comes back here, he has to work with you. I’ll send him that clip… ” he dared.
The footage triggered an immediate wave of public anger, with citizens accusing the MP of stalling critical, life-saving development projects over political gatekeeping and ego.
Many argued that in such a drought-prone constituency, where clean water remains a severe challenge, politicians should welcome charitable initiatives rather than threaten them.
Online commentators questioned how many boreholes the MP’s own CDF allocation had delivered, noting that rejecting charitable aid harms ordinary citizens the most while protecting his image and office.
An X user said: “I frequently assert that the majority of politicians do not seek change or wish for conditions to improve but rather favour maintaining the current state for their own advantage.”
Someone else opined: “This is very inappropriate. If you, the MP, cannot look for partners, why start chasing them? Lifewater Canada, please come to Kitui rural. We will accommodate you. We need water, not useless politics.”
Critics also pointed out that hostile political gatekeeping discourages international investors, charity organisations, and well-wishers from intervening in vulnerable communities whilst these politicians did little to solve these endemic issues anyway.
“I’m starting to believe that many of the problems we face in almost every county are deliberately kept unresolved so that the common mwananchi remains dependent on politicians. There was a time when a certain tycoon wanted to put murram on our local road, but the authorities blocked the initiative. I was told the area MCA was behind it. Most politicians are truly wicked!” someone said on X.
Others alleged that the MP’s insistence on involvement was motivated by a desire to hijack donor projects for political branding ahead of future elections.
X user Njeri Gachage said, “What is hurting him most, he wanted to use the NGO projects for his own political mileage. He wants to brand his pictures, then deceive his constituents that he drilled it.”
Lifewater Canada has yet to issue an official response to the MP’s threats.
In another part of the country Principal Secretary for the Interior raised interesting concerns for MPs and governors in Nyanza like James Orengo to be able to tell Kenyans what they have achieved for them in their years in office as elected officials.
Omollo challenges Kalonzo, Orengo to explain record as he rallies support for Ruto in 2027
Speaking in Homa Bay during a consultative meeting with grassroots mobilisers supporting civic education, Omollo said voters should scrutinise the track record and plans of every candidate seeking an elective position, from Members of County Assembly to the presidency.
“Even if you want to be an MCA, MP, women representative, Senator, Governor or even President of this country, you must tell Kenyans what you have done before and what you intend to do,” Omollo said.
The PS said Ruto had raised the bar for leadership through development projects being implemented by his administration, urging voters to compare the President’s record with that of politicians seeking to replace him.
Omollo singled out former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Siaya Governor James Orengo, questioning their contribution to the country after years in public service.
“Take the case of Kalonzo Musyoka, what has he done for Kenyans all this time he has led this country in different categories?” he asked.
He also challenged Orengo to account for his record in Siaya before seeking to influence political opinion in neighbouring counties.
“If you look at James Orengo, the Governor of Siaya, he was first elected into public office even before I was born. Can he first tell us what he has done in Siaya?” Omollo said.
His remarks come as opposition leaders intensify mobilisation and political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Omollo also criticised Suba South MP Caroli Omondi over his opposition to Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the legislator had a right to hold a different political position but should base his criticism on facts.
“That is his democratic right, but he must say the truth. He is claiming that President Ruto has done mundane things in his constituency. That is a lie that must be confronted with facts,” Omollo said.
He cited road construction and other government projects in Suba South as evidence of the administration’s development record.
The PS said Homa Bay residents had witnessed increased government activity under the Ruto administration and should consider the projects and programmes being implemented when making their political decisions.
Right now the big story for the opposition is that their King, Rigathi Gachagua is going to the USA to take United Opposition to America. How grand is that.
Maybe with Gachagua roaming around in the USA streets the other opposition leaders like Kalonzo and Matiang’i can find room to tell Kenyans something, anything about their agenda for Kenyans for the 2027 elections.
Good luck with that because WANTAM remains the one and only agenda for the United Opposition team and that is what is going to kill them at the polls in 2027.
Gachagua meets Kalonzo, Wamalwa ahead of US diaspora tour
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has held a meeting with fellow United Opposition principals, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, ahead of his departure for a diaspora visit to the United States.
Gachagua is scheduled to leave the country on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, for a tour of the United States, where he is expected to engage with Kenyans living in the diaspora.
The former Deputy President will leave his political engagements and base in the hands of DCP Secretary-General John Methu, whom he has previously described as the person to take care of his political “home” in his absence.
I am sure the United Opposition loves this but last time Gachagua was in the USA it was a complete tribalist disaster and young Kenyans and the Gen Z tried to tell him to get off the tribal agenda because it was bad for Kenya and even for the opposition.
Kenyans Will Listen To and Thank Valentine Wanjiru Githae but Gachagua Will Not
Kenyan Gen Zs in US to Gachagua: Position yourself as a national leader
“My name is Valentine Wanjiru Githae, and I am here representing the 625 Movement. And mheshimiwa, we are here to tell you the truth, and if we don’t tell the truth as Gen Zs we are doomed to fail, and Kasongo will be back in power,” she stated.
“You need to start positioning yourself as a national leader and not a tribal leader. I know many people won’t like what I am saying, but it is the truth. The first mistake that has been done in this event is speaking Kikuyu,” she added.
“I watched your speech about you in Boston, and there is something you said that the Kikuyu are more hardworking; we have grown the country. But we have done that because we are a beneficiary of Jomo Kenyatta,” she added.
Valentine Wanjiru Githae, directly confronted the former DP over what she termed as divisive rhetoric that undermines national unity.
She told Gachagua to reframe his political approach if he hopes to challenge President William Ruto effectively in 2027.
Wanjiru, who hails from Mathira—Gachagua’s rural home—criticised the decision to begin the meeting by addressing attendees in Kikuyu.
While acknowledging her own Kikuyu heritage, she warned against perpetuating ethnic-based leadership narratives.
“If we position ourselves as Kikuyu, another tribe will also do that, and before we know it, we are back to the same problem,” she cautioned.
Wanjiru also took issue with remarks Gachagua made during a rally in Boston, where he described the Kikuyu as the “drivers of the Kenyan economy” due to their hard work.
She argued that such statements reinforce tribal entitlement and ignore the broader contributions of other Kenyan communities.
“We cannot say that people from other tribes are not hardworking. We have that sense of entitlement as Kikuyus, and it has to stop. If I do not say that, I will not be telling Mheshimiwa the truth,” she asserted.
Gachagua fights off trabalist tag after being confronted by Gen Z in the US
Rigathi Gachagua strongly defended his consistent focus on the Mt. Kenya region, dismissing claims that he is stoking tribal divisions.
“My daughter, if you follow what happened two weeks before I came to America, you will realise why I have to defend the Mt. Kenya people,” Gachagua stated. “Businesses for the Mt. Kenya people were targeted for destruction. In other areas, they were not destroyed. This is because they wanted to intimidate the people of that region into silence.”
He further alleged bias in arrests and prosecutions following the recent anti-government protests, claiming that 92% of those charged with terrorism-related offences were from the Mt. Kenya region.
He concluded by affirming that he is willing to pay any political price for standing with his people.
“Somebody must defend the mountain. If all of us get intimidated and allow the people to get intimidated, what happens? And I say, I don’t have to be president; I don’t have to be anybody in Kenya. And if I will be a nobody because I stand with the people, let it be.
It is obvious Gachagua did not get the message about his tribalism which was delivered so eloquently right in his face. It was a clear and direct vision for our country from the voice of that young Kenyan speaking for Gen Z citizens of our country everywhere they live.
That is what will be resonating with Kenyans in the country and in diaspora but as expected Gachagua did not listen to the wise words from that young Kenyan. Instead he went on with his tiring tribal agenda which is killing his United Opposition hopes to be a real political force in the country.
Gachagua is welcome to go on with his tribalism in his DCP party and the political groups glued to him as he takes them to a political grave and they will deserve that.
There is a wide open dumping ground for the whole team to jump in and Kenyans will move on to build a free country where all citizens are equal and aspire to rebuild our economy, address issues of justice for all Kenyans as they stick to the vision of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.
What Valentine Wanjiru Githae told Gachagua in Baltimore is not a narrative but the truth and the whole truth and she will be validated in August 2027 when Kenyans head to the polls. Long live that vision for Kenya.
We know Gachagua denounced that clear patriotic vision for that brilliant voice in Baltimore the big issue is what will his United Opposition fellows like Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and Fred Matiang’i do and say in response to what Valentine Wanjiru Githae frankly told their boss.
Will the opposition continue to bury their heads in the sand looking at the tsunami facing them as they continue to worship King Gachagua. Of course they will because they have no better vision themselves. Good for them and good for the country.
Gachagua has told Kenyans that he is ready to lose the 2027 Presidential and General Elections because he worships tribalism. What are the other leaders in his United Opposition prepared to do. Are they willing to drown with him in that doomed boat? Then they are welcome.
It is amazing that it took the voice of such a young proud Kenyan to loudly say what the whole country has been battling with for months now. Thank you very much because you have spoken for millions of Kenyans.
Valentine Wanjiru Githae has said something that even our most prominent human rights activists in the country have no courage to speak about as they see everything unfolding in front of all Kenyans.
Now it is time for Gachagua and his opposition leaders to “SKIZA WAKENYA”. Oh Dear! Will Gachagua SKIZA Valentine Wanjiru Githae?

The great news here for Kenyans and for the voters in 2027 is that for the first time Gachagua has publicly confessed that he is a tribalist and he will not change that part of his politics.
It is no longer other people claiming that Gachagua is a nasty bigot. The man himself was telling all Kenyans as he spoke in Boltimore that yes tribalism in political leadership is his vision for Kenya. The country will see what the voters think after the 2027 elections.
In reality, Tribalism is what defines Gachugua politics in Kenya as he is always talking about Kikuyus voting this way and Luos and Kambas voting one way or another because that is his life and that horrible line of thinking for the country has been embarced by United Opposition leaders bending on Gachagua’s knees everyday.
This time Gachagua could do better in the US and tell Kenyans there that in 1992 he massacred thousands of Kikuyus in Molo for President Moi and won a grand prize but now he is going to change his plan and deal with the other tribes instead. Maybe that could work for him and the opposition.
As President Moi’s DO in Molo in 1992 Gachagua when supervised the killing of more than 5,000 Kikuyus and expelling 75,000 others because they did not vote for Moi in the first multi party election in Kenya held on December 29, 1992.
Moi and Gachagua did their job in three days after the election day and wiped out all Kikuyus from Molo dead or alive. They had to clean the place up quick and fast and that meant there had to be no Kikuyu left in Molo District. They achieved their goal.
After the annihilation in Molo in 1992, the then young D.O 1 Mr. Gachagua was very quickly promoted by president Moi for a job well done. President Moi in his letter of promotion specifically thanked him for “decimation of Kikuyu separatists”. We all know what that means.
