Senator Edwin Sifuna has emerged as the opposition’s most preferred presidential candidate for 2027, according to the latest TIFA (Trends and Insights for Africa) survey released on Friday.
The poll shows President William Ruto maintaining his position as the overall frontrunner with 24 per cent support, while Sifuna follows closely at 15 per cent, making him the incumbent’s strongest challenger.
Former CS Fred Matiang’i ranks third with 14 per cent, while Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka trails with 13 per cent support.
The survey highlights Sifuna’s remarkable ascent in national politics, noting that he has recorded the fastest growth among opposition leaders over the past year.
“Although opposition support remains fragmented, Sifuna has recorded the fastest rise among opposition figures, increasing from virtually no support in 2025 to 15% in June 2026, positioning him among the leading opposition contenders,” the TIFA survey states.
The Nairobi Senator has moved from relative obscurity in presidential preference polls to becoming a major contender in just over a year.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua garnered 2 per cent support, while Embakasi East MP Babu Owino attracted 1 per cent.
Other candidates collectively account for 2 per cent of the vote.
Notably, 20 per cent of respondents remain undecided, suggesting that the race remains fluid with significant room for movement as the country approaches the 2027 polls.
