Siaya Senator and ODM leader Oburu Oginga has disclosed ongoing reconciliation efforts by Nyanza religious leaders aimed at mending relations between him and Siaya Governor James Orengo.
Speaking on Wednesday, Oburu revealed that the first attempt to reconcile the two leaders was initiated by local clerics in Bondo, who invited both for a meeting. However, Governor Orengo did not attend the session.
“The first attempt was when local clerics in Bondo invited us to reconcile, but Orengo failed to show up,” Oburu said.
The senator further noted that Governor Orengo had earlier requested the organization of a National Delegates Conference (NDC) to address their differences.
According to Oburu, the event was organized as requested, but Orengo and his team again failed to attend.
“Orengo had asked for an NDC, which we organized, but they chose not to show up,” he added.
Oburu also revealed that a fresh attempt at reconciliation is currently being spearheaded by respected Kisumu cleric Bishop Zacheus Okoth.
He said he is waiting to see whether Governor Orengo will attend the meeting and affirmed he has no issues with the Governor who has declared himself acting ODM leader.
“I am waiting to see if he will attend so we can understand what is troubling him. Personally, I have no issues with him,” Oburu stated.
Whereas Oburu Oginga is the official ODM leader, Governor James Orengo says Oburu’s leadership in the party is illegitimate and he has declared himslef the leader of ODM supported by a majority of ODM supporters.
