Where Is Mukhisa Kituyi? Ngunjiri Wambugu Questions Silence of United Opposition Spokesman

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has raised concerns over the conspicuous absence of former UNCTAD Secretary-General and ex-Kimilili MP Mukhisa Kituyi from the public eye, months after his appointment as the spokesman for the United Opposition.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Saturday, April 18, 2026, Wambugu questioned why Kituyi has been missing in action despite being tasked with articulating the coalition’s agenda.

“Btw, what happened to Mukhisa Kituyi? He was to be the spokesman of our united opposition?” Wambugu wrote, sparking debate among supporters of the opposition.

Kituyi was unveiled in November 2025 as the official spokesman and head of the United Opposition Secretariat, a role that positioned him at the heart of the coalition’s communication strategy. His appointment was widely seen as a move to inject intellectual depth and international experience into the opposition’s leadership structure.

However, since assuming the role, Kituyi has maintained a low profile and has rarely been seen alongside key opposition figures during major political events or press briefings. His silence has fueled speculation about internal disquiet within the coalition or possible disengagement from his assigned duties.

This silence could point to deeper coordination challenges within the United Opposition, which has been struggling to maintain a unified front against the government. However, others argue that the former UNCTAD boss may be working behind the scenes to reorganize the coalition’s communication machinery.
