Homa Bay Leaders Push for Interior PS Raymond Omollo’s Dismissal Over 2027

A section of ODM MPs in Homabay County is calling for the dismissal of Dr. Raymond Omollo or the reassignment of the Interior PS to a less influential docket.

The leaders, who met on Friday in Homa Bay are uneasy with PS Omollo’s political activities in the region and the perception that he has been taking full credit for national government projects in Nyanza to drum up support for the UDA party.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, the leaders resolved to petition President William Ruto to remove Dr. Omollo as a precondition for the ODM party’s political support in 2027.

They accuse the PS of overshadowing elected leaders and using government programs to advance his personal political ambitions.

Dr. Omollo, who hails from Homabay County, has also been at the forefront of a national identification registration campaign targeting young Kenyans in the Nyanza region.

The initiative, coordinated through the Kenya Youth Transition Initiative (KYTI) mobilizing all eligible youth to acquire national IDs. ODM politicians are claiming that the PS is using the program to build grassroots political support ahead of the next election.

Recent government data shows that Homabay County has emerged as the top performer in the ongoing ID registration drive, with over 35,000 residents issued identity cards in the first quarter of 2026.

Across the four Nyanza counties, more than 110,000 people have been registered under the program.

Dr. Omollo has not publicly responded to the calls for his removal.
