Ngunjiri Wambugu Hosts Matiang’i in Nyeri as Jubilee Party Launches New Offices

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu on Wednesday hosted Jubilee Party flagbearer Fred Matiang’i in Nyeri Town during the official opening of new party offices, marking a renewed push by the party to reclaim its influence in the Mt Kenya region.

The event, which drew hundreds of supporters, was part of Jubilee’s broader strategy to re-establish its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 General Election. The former Interior Cabinet Secretary, who is leading the party’s presidential campaign, used the occasion to rally Nyeri residents to back his bid for State House.

Addressing the crowd, Wambugu assured Matiang’i of unwavering support from Nyeri voters, declaring that the region’s backing could be secured without the involvement of other political figures.

“Ukikuja Nyeri, usiwahi ogopa; huku si lazima uletwe na mtu. Kura huku uko nazo, na tutakupatia direct,” Wambugu told Matiang’i, emphasizing that the Jubilee leader should feel confident engaging directly with the people of Nyeri.

The remarks were seen as a subtle jab at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a native of Nyeri County, with whom Wambugu has had a long-standing political rivalry.

Matiang’i, in his address, lauded the Nyeri leadership for their unity and commitment to reviving Jubilee’s fortunes. He reiterated his vision of a united and development-focused Kenya, promising to prioritize economic empowerment and good governance if elected president.

The Nyeri event capped a series of Jubilee Party activities across the Mt Kenya region, signaling the party’s intent to mount a strong comeback in areas once considered its stronghold.
