Azimio Coalition Council Replaces Junet Mohamed with Caroli Omondi as Secretary General

The Azimio Coalition Party Council has announced significant leadership changes, dropping Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as Secretary General and appointing Suba South MP Caroli Omondi in his place. The changes were circulated on Tuesday following a high-level meeting of the coalition’s top organs.

The Council, chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, also confirmed Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the new Party Leader, succeeding the late Raila Odinga, who passed away in October 2025. The announcement followed a joint session of the Azimio Council and the National Executive Committee held on Monday, February 2.

The meeting brought together senior coalition figures to review Azimio’s internal structure, assess the current political environment, and chart a long-term strategy for the alliance.

In the new appointments, the Council named former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia as Executive Director, a move seen as part of efforts to strengthen the coalition’s administrative and operational capacity.

In a statement, the coalition said the leadership changes were driven by “evolving political circumstances” that necessitated strategic adjustments to enhance internal coordination and overall effectiveness.

“The overarching goal is to reposition and revitalize the Azimio la Umoja coalition, fostering greater cohesion, effectiveness, and unity as it advances its national agenda,” the statement read.

The coalition confirmed that the new appointments have been formally transmitted to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) for official record and recognition.
