DIKEMBE: Next Cohort of Governors of Luo Nyanza Should be People who Think Beyond Far Ahead

Still on ‘lost opportunities’ in South Nyanza is the upcoming Migori Stadium.

The amazing thing with President Ruto is that he gives you what you lobbied.

Migori leaders lobbied for a stadium and the president put resources for the construction of the stadium — Ksh 700 million.

Rather than the leaders sitting down to plan properly the best place to construct the stadium, they chose to squeeze it in the same place where the old derelict stadium stood, a space which should ideally have been abandoned for the future expansion of the Migori County hospital to a truly referral facility.

A proper Migori stadium should have been built on the outskirts of Migori town, either towards Ogwedhi-Maasai, or towards Nyikendo etc.

By squeezing the stadium in its current location, it means the future expansion of the hospital (which should have acted as a future ‘school of medicine’ for the still nascent idea of Migori University), is now untenable.

We’ve lost two opportunities by our thoughtlessness. The hospital cannot expand, and the stadium will forever be a nuisance to the sick nearby.

The next cohort of governors of Luo Nyanza should be people who think beyond far ahead. People who think 30, 40 years ahead.

Be that as it may, tunasema ahsante rais…

KUMI BILA BREAK.
