The Kenya Meteorological Department has cautioned Kenyans to prepare for more rainfall, chilly nights, and strong winds across several parts of the country this week.
In its weekly forecast covering September 1–6, the department indicated that the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley will experience frequent rainfall and low nighttime temperatures.
Daylong rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.
Residents of the Coast, Southeastern lowlands, Northeastern, and Northwestern regions should brace for strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots.
Counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi will record sunny mornings with afternoon showers, alongside cloudy nights for most of the week. Temperatures in these areas are forecast to range between 5°C at night and 28°C during the day.
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland Tana River will remain largely sunny, with highs of 32°C and lows of 12°C. Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and Tana River, will experience sunny intervals during the day and cloudy conditions at night, with temperatures ranging between 21°C and 31°C.
The Northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo are expected to experience prolonged sunny spells, with daytime highs of 36°C and lows of 15°C. Meanwhile, Turkana and Samburu are forecast to record highs of 35°C and lows of 10°C.
