Weatherman Forecasts More Rain and Chilly Conditions Across Kenya

The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Kenyans in several regions to prepare for more rainfall and cooler weather this week, with conditions expected to vary across the country.

According to the department’s weekly forecast covering Tuesday, September 9, to Saturday, September 13, showers and cold mornings will persist in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley. Residents in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi counties will experience sunny intervals in the mornings, with occasional afternoon showers and cloudy nights from midweek. Temperatures in these areas are expected to range between 7°C and 29°C.

In the southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and parts of Tana River County, the weather will be largely sunny during the day with cloudy conditions at night. Temperatures here will peak at 32°C and dip to lows of about 9°C.

Coastal counties, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale and parts of Tana River, are likely to experience light showers on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, while Wednesday and Saturday will bring sunny mornings. Maximum temperatures in the region are forecast at 31°C, with minimums of 20°C.

Western and Rift Valley counties, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot, will see widespread rainfall and thunderstorms both during the day and night. Temperatures in these areas are expected to range between 9°C and 30°C.

Meanwhile, the northern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will remain largely dry with daytime sunshine and cloudy nights, recording highs of 37°C and lows of 14°C. Turkana and Samburu will see occasional morning rains, sunny afternoons and cloudy nights, with temperatures ranging between 8°C and 35°C.
